Q - What is Pin Up Girl?
A - Pin Up Girl is a global network of woman working together to make public spaces safe for everyone. Women wear our pins as a visual cue that we are available to help. We exist to provide access to support and assistance to all female identifying people who, for whatever reason, feel at risk. If you see a woman wearing our pin it means she is available help if you are feeling unsafe or need help.
Q - Can anyone become a Pin Up Girl?
A - As long as you are female identifying and over the age of 18, YES, you can become a Pin Up Girl
Q - How do you make sure the women wearing the pins are safe?
A - Wearing a pin is based on trust that our fellow woman is our partner if we need her. It’s this reason we strongly urge you to never do anything to compromise your own safety. Never get into a car with a stranger, even if she’s wearing the pin. Never go anywhere alone with someone, trust your instincts, never give out any personal information, and when in doubt call the police. You have the right to refuse assistance at any time. Our goal is that wherever you go there will be Pin Up Girls all around you and that if someone isn’t wearing the pin with integrity another Pin Up Girl will step in and do the right thing.
Q - Why do I need to wear a pin? I can help people without one.
A - There are a few reasons:
-Wearing our pin helps others identify you as a safe person. This helps those in trouble to easily find a safe space, quickly.
-Some women may not feel comfortable asking for help. Wearing the pin lets someone in trouble know its ok to ask for assistance and that there is a safe person nearby.
- Women wearing the pin sends a clear message that we as women not alone. We all become less vaulnerable when we watch out for each other. Wearing the pin tells others you are watching out for the safety of others.
Q - How do I become a Pin Up Girl?
A - Click on our Donate/order a PIn link at the top of our homepage. You can order a pin by completing the donation form (all your information will remain private and confidential, as safety is very important to us). The cost of each pin is $5.25 (in Canada) and $7.25 (Internationally)
Q - What does my donation go towards? Why is it more expensive outside of Canada?
A - A portion of your donation goes towards producing and mailing the pins we send you. To ship pins outside of Canada (and around the world) costs more money and that is reflected in the international price difference. The additional charge is for the shipping. In addition we offer our pins at no charge to any female-identifying person who lives or works on the street. Every time you donate to order a pin, it makes one available to a woman in need. Any amount remaining goes towards promoting and growing Pin Up Girl globally so we can expand our reach and create pins for more women.
